Bridge Players Theatre Company presents August Wilson’s FENCES, a gripping family drama which tells the story of Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. As a black man excluded from the major leagues during his prime, Troy’s inner conflicts take a toll on his relationships with his wife and his children as they look for their own chances to fulfill their dreams. A moving and thoughtful play, Fences is about family, responsibility, love, friendship, and respect. Fences is the third of ten plays in August Wilson’s legendary American Century Cycle (also known as his Pittsburgh cycle); a decade-by-decade exploration of the evolving black experience in the 20th century, exploring particularly what it was like to be black and male in mid-century America.
