Beer Meets Wine Meets Chocolate Holiday Treat

This past June when Amalthea Cellars bottled their 2014 Europa VII, a premium Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, only the wet barrels (still freshly soaked in wine) were left behind. They were then moved same day to Flying Fish Brewery and filled with the rare Chocolate Stout to age and mature. The brewers and winemakers were both astounded as it married and mellowed.
This rich “export style” stout gives a sturdy base for the more than 600 pounds of chocolate that went into the brew. It’s an excellent desert beer made even more delicious by aging for 5 months in the Amalthea Europa VII barrel picking up flavors of tobacco, smoke, and leather.
There was only one barrel produced and Flying Fish no longer make the beer so this is an extremely limited one-time only offering. Enjoy it while it lasts.
This special beer will be available in the Flying Fish tasting room 3-9pm Wednesday December 20th with a meet the winemaker/brewer session from 5-7 where you can get an autographed bottle—a perfect holiday gift.
