Final concert of the 2014-2015 Season for the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey.
Walt Whitman’s “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d” was written in the summer of 1865, a period of profound mourning, as the nation struggled to cope with Lincoln’s recent assassination. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon’s powerful setting of Whitman’s text is paired with Beethoven’s mighty Eroica Symphony in a musical tribute to the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, 150 years later.
