Stratus Quartet is a string quartet dedicated to new music and improvisation. Join the quartet on Friday, July 20th, for a performance of their live film score to the space-adventure silent film The Impossible Voyage directed by the French experimental filmmaker Georges Méliès.

Completed in 1904, The Impossible Voyage is one of the first films ever published. The film is notable for its slapstick, its blending of photography and animation, and it’s use of overlaid hand-painted color. The narrative centers around a group of French explorers who travel to the sun by spaceship.

Stratus’ performance at Eilandarts, which is part of their US summer tour, will also feature selections from the quartet’s repertoire–a combination of compositions by the quartets own members and works by South American, Scandinavian, and Eastern European composers.
