The summer solstice signals the onset of summer and marks the longest day of the year. It is a time to honor moving from the darkness of winter into the light of summer as crops grow, flowers bloom, animals awaken, and people start spending more time being active outdoors under the heat and light of the sun.

Throughout history, many cultures have associated the summer solstice with a renewal of mind, body, and spirit and a celebration of creative expression of art, music, and the sense of joyfulness and fun that the sunshine invokes in all of us.

There is a long-time tradition in yoga to salute the sun with a series of 12 poses done in succession known as a sun salutation. This series of poses are done to give gratitude for the sun. These sun salutations are practiced to create “tapas” or inner heat that cleanses the body and the “mandala” or circular pattern of the poses can bring us into a state of moving meditation.

Join New Moon Hot Yoga at Cecil Creek Farms! The sun salutations will be comprised of both full and half sun salutations and divided up into groups of 27 with short breaks in between. Modifications will be offered and encouraged to allow this practice to be accessible for all (previous experience with sun salutations recommended). There is no requirement to do all 108 sun salutations. This event is a unifying celebration of the yoga community. Please bring water along with a yoga mat and towel.

Immediately following, you are invited into the Market at Cecil Creek Farm for complimentary appetizers and discounted wine! $20 pre-registered and $25 walk-in. The celebration will be held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, practice will be held in the barn.
