Sailing in South Jersey

Summer is the perfect time to be out on the water. Take your boat out, learn how to sail, or go on a dinner cruise at these South Jersey sailing schools and yacht clubs!

1. Barnegate Bay Sailing School & Sailboat Charters, Bayville, NJ

Barnegat Bay Sailing School is a small, highly personalized New Jersey sailing school offering introductory and advanced sailing courses in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. We are located at Cedar Creek Sailing Center in Bayville, New Jersey. Our constant sea breezes, along with our calm bay waters, make this the ideal setting for learning to sail or enjoying a relaxing sailboat charter.

2. Cooper River Yacht Club, Collingswood, NJ

Whether you strive to be a world champion sailor or you just like messing around with boats, sailing classes at Cooper River Yacht Club can help you achieve your sailing dreams. Over the past 50 years the Cooper River Sailing School has prepared numerous sailors for recreational and competitive sailing. Several regional, national, and world champions have actually received their start in the Cooper River Yacht Club “Learn to Sail” program.

3. The North Wind Schooner, Gloucester City

The North Wind Schooner is operated by Gloucester City Sail, Inc., a non-profit organization. Their primary purpose is to offer maritime learning opportunities for the youth in the area. For over eight years, they have been offering two-hour cruises up and down the Delaware River that are ideal for private events and fundraisers.

4. The Red Dragon Canoe Club, Edgewater Park, NJ

The Red Dragon Canoe Club is equipped to moor larger vessels in the Delaware River, as well as launch day sailers by means of davitz and rails. Smaller sailboats and canoes can be carried into the water. Sail upriver under the Burlington Bristol Bridge around Burlington Island, or down the river to the Tacony Palmyra Bridge, with a view of the Philadelphia skyline.

5. Riverton Yacht Club, Riverton, NJ

Founded in 1865, Riverton Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club on the Delaware River and one of the oldest in America. Friendly and informal, they are open to anyone who loves the thrill, companionship, and calm beauty of sailing. They offer junior and adult sailing instruction classes starting in June.

6. The Sailing School, Delran, NJ

The Sailing School offers courses in two locations – one is on the Delaware River (near Philadelphia, PA) and the other is on the scenic Chesapeake Bay. Their 103 and above courses are offered on a 2011 Beneteau 40 and include gourmet meals.
