We can thank Eli Facchinei and his love of German beer for the birth of Tonewood.  It’s important to know that the country of Germany is home to some fantastic beer styles and Eli Facchinei is no stranger to that. After traveling to Germany, he was so enamored with German beer culture that he knew when he returned, he wanted to brew his own beer.  After learning the ropes and working as a brewer in Colorado, he decided to follow his passion and start his own brewery.  Eli enlisted the help of brother, Taylor, and dad, Jim, and got busy. Tonewood Brewing, its name born of the family’s interest in music and the tonal quality of string instrument wood, was conceived.

It wasn’t so easy.  First, finding a location without red tape obstacles was a challenge. Enter Robert Forbes, mayor of Oaklyn who heard that the guys were looking for a suitable downtown location. When the mayor reached out, things began to happen, and Oaklyn is reaping the benefits of that helping handTonewood has built a reputation for having some of the finest beers around; in fact, in its first year they doubled their capacity and built a steady customer base, and they continue to grow and expand.

Tonewood offers an absolutely beautiful tasting room. Imagine a downtown location, walkable and accessible, with a plenty of street parking and a large side parking lot. It gets better. Now imagine walking into a well decorated space with the cozy touches of brick on the wall, wood ceilings, a fantastic ash bar, and handcrafted tables made from local milled wood. Add in a couple of garage doors that open to an outdoor biergarten and you’ve entered the environment of dreams. This is Tonewood’s reality.

But as we know, a beautiful tasting room is nothing without great beer. Tonewood Brewing delivers that too. Tonewood brews what they like to call “classic styles with modern interpretations.” They brew everything from IPAs to lagers to pilsners to saisons and more. Their popular Fuego IPA is cloudy and hop forward with just the right amount of bitter to make one seek another sip.  Like lagers? Try Poolside Lager,  a 5.2% ABV Mexican lager brewed with traditional lager yeast. It’s so refreshing you will feel like your toes are dipped in cool water. Whatever you try, you will not be disappointed. Attention to quality and taste is apparent.  In fact, their Revolution Porter is often described by patrons as “awesome” on untapped.

Looking for something different to do? Check out their Bluegrass jam on the second Wednesday of each month. You will want to tap your shoes in time with the music as you sip an awesome beer. Come give Tonewood Brewing a try. Located at 215 West Clinton Ave in downtown Oaklyn, the tasting room is open Tuesday through Friday 4pm to 10pm, Saturday 12pm to 10pm and Sunday 12pm to 7pm.
