DESCRIPTION:Becky Libourel Diamond is a food writer\, librarian\, and research historian. Her most recent book\, The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook\, blends Gilded Age details and celebrity stories with historic holiday menus and recipes updated for modern kitchens. She is also the author of The Gilded Age Cookbook\, The Thousand Dollar Dinner and Mrs. Goodfellow: The Story of America’s First Cooking School. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Rider University and a master’s of library service degree from Rutgers University. She has worked as a business librarian at Rutgers–New Brunswick since 2020. Her next book is a history of Philadelphia’s famous City Tavern restaurant\, slated for a fall 2026 release.

SUMMARY:Thomas Paine - A Lecture by Gary Berton\, President of the Thomas Paine Historical Association
DESCRIPTION:Please join the BHS for this very interesting lecture on Thomas Paine – an incredible individual  and Rev War pamphleteer whose pamplets: Common Sense (1776) and his American Crisis series (1776-1783) played a major role in our Country winning the Revolutionary War. The first Crisis paper  begings with the famous words: “These are the times that try men’s souls…” relevant in 1776 and in 2026! Paine was also one of Bordentown’s most famous residents – having lived in Bordentown from 1783 to 1802. \nGary Berton has led the Thomas Paine Historical Association for close to 30 years\, and has researched Paine and his activities and writings\, starting in Bordentown. The Association is now international in scope and growing. Mr. Berton has been a mathematics teacher in every level\, a political science instructor in college\, and held college lectures numerous times on the philosophy of Thomas Paine\, and his activities introducing democracy to the world.” \nTickets for this event will be on sale at the day of the lecture at Carslake: \n  \nTicket prices: $5 for a BHS member. $10 for a non-member.
