Uptown Pitman, located in Gloucester County, New Jersey, has become a downtown hot spot for locals and visitors alike. Originally built as a small gathering town, Pitman’s quaint businesses, amazing restaurants, fun art scene, and beautiful historic landmarks are all easily walkable, making your day trip easy to plan!
Founded in 1871 as a summer camp meeting for Methodists escaping the heat and bustle of Philadelphia, Pitman Grove was centered around the Camp Meeting Auditorium, which was the main place of worship. Eventually small cottages were built on nearby avenues and the town began to develop. Pitman Grove still to this day remains part of the Borough of Pitman and is listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places.
Pitman’s business district, adjacent to the Grove, is anchored by the historic vaudeville era Broadway Theater of Pitman. Operating since 1926, The Broadway Theater has been a home to locals and celebrities alike, as a venue to enjoy their favorite live action theater productions.
If you’re looking to make your day trip into an overnight stay, consider The Inn on Holly Bed and Breakfast. This gorgeous turn of the century Victorian home was built in 1906, and offers breakfast served in the exquisite dining room each morning or on the wrap-around porch, weather permitting.

The Pitman Gallery and Art Center offers a full calendar of interesting programs, workshops, and events that make art accessible to all. Or you can relax and decorate your own piece of pottery at Fahrenheit Ceramic Studio.
If you’re searching for a unique piece of furniture, you should visit Restored Antiquity. They have a beautiful selection of restored furniture, antiques, and home decor, as well as host craft workshops. You may also want to consider checking out The Caffeinated Cyclist, a bicycle sales and service shop.
Uptown Pitman also hosts a variety of events around the town including a weekly farmer’s market on Saturdays, monthly Fourth Fridays, a craft beer festival, craft shows in the fall and spring, and much more!
