This house was built circa 1743 by Bennett and Sarah Pattison Bard. In 1756, it was purchased by Samuel How, Sr. [21] In 1775-1776, How served as a delegate from Burlington County in the Provincial Congress of the United States. [22] The Provincial Congress was the governing body of New Jersey during the early period of the Revolutionary War, as the transition was made from British colony to a state of the United States of America.
