Down and Derby Wine Weekend

Thank you for participating in this year’s Down and Derby Wine Weekend!

Visit South Jersey, in partnership with The Camden County Board of Commissioners and Audacy, invites you to Down and Derby Wine Weekend from May 1-2, 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular Down and Derby Wine Festival will not be held this year, but that’s not stopping us from celebrating the Kentucky Derby and our region’s award-wining wine!

This year, we invite festival goers to put on their best derby outfits, and make reservations at one of our participating wineries to celebrate the race. The goal is to support our wonderful wine region, while keeping the Down and Derby event top of mind to come back strong in 2022. Please make your reservations directly with each winery (Guests must follow proper COVID-10 protocol established per location. Limited reservations will be available at each winery).

Featured Wines:
Dry Rosé
Dry Provencal-style rosé made principally from the Sangiovese grape. A beautiful light, pink color, this rosé has lovely citrus and strawberry flavors and a pleasingly long and dry finish.

Solé
A refreshing semi-dry white wine with a touch of effervescence – what we might call a “Frizzante.” Made from the Vidal Blanc grape. Stainless steel fermented and aged. Similar to semi-dry Rieslings.

With vineyards established in 2012 and the small winery that followed, Autumn Lake Winery was born with the singular ambition of creating wines of superior quality from grapes grown on their own cultivation. Their clay and gravel-laced soils provide the ultimate conditions for wine grapes. Grown above the lakes where little else can flourish, all of their vines enjoy a view of the water.

Wagonhouse Winery is located in South Harrison Township in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Wagonhouse’s original vineyard was first planted in Mickleton in 2004. The winery began sales of its wine in 2005, and opened a tasting room in South Harrison in 2011. Wagonhouse has 10 acres of grapes under cultivation, and produces 7,000 cases of wine per year. The winery is named after an old wagon house on their farm.

Featured Wine:

Painted Rosé- A dry rosé made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Notes of passion fruit and pink guava on the nose. The palate exhibits flavors of fresh strawberry and starfruit.

Painted White- A dry white blend of Cayuga, Traminette, and Vidal Blanc. This light, refreshing wine has notes of honeydew and white peach. Perfect for Spring!
