2022 Inaugural Global Gloucester Day
September 3, 2022 @ 10:00 am EDT
The Gloucester Township Historic and Scenic Preservation Committee is proud to be taking part in a September 3rd, 2022 Global Celebration and collaboration of unity with twelve (12) like named Gloucester communities throughout the U.S. and Abroad.
“Inaugural Global Gloucester Day” began as a 2017 collaboration between Gloucester, Virginia and Gloucester, England through the commemoration of the Gloucester County Virginia born icon Pocahontas’s 400th anniversary of her funeral and burial in Gravesend, England.
The goal of the “Global Gloucester Day” celebration is to honor Pocahontas’s legacy of reaching out and bringing people together. Further to honor her, the events on September 3rd intend to promote environmental stewardship especially as it relates to rivers and streams while recognizing the origin or Our Gloucester Township Community.
On September 3rd at 10 am a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the Historic 1756 Gabreil Davis Tavern Museum House and Grounds. The ribbon cutting will dedicate the newly installed elevate walkway on our trails to the North Branch of Timber Creek and Otter Branch. The Gloucester Township Rotary Club Foundation funded, through grant writing, the construction of the elevated walkway allowing our visitors to explore and follow in the footsteps of boat revealers of the 1700’s & 1800’s. After the ribbon cutting, guided history walks along the trail and grounds will be conducted. The day will conclude at 12pm with the ringing of bells throughout Gloucester Twp. and around the world in the “Global Gloucesters”. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
