Burlington County Short Film Festival
May 5, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday and Friday, repeating until May 29, 2023
Through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Grant, the Burlington County Board of Commissioners is excited to present award-winning films from diverse filmmakers worldwide. The 2023 Festival will run on April 28 and 29. On April 28, films will be screened at Lyceum Hall, 432 High Street in Burlington City, NJ, starting at 7 PM, and on April 29, the Burlington County Institute of Technology, 695 Woodlane Road, Westampton, NJ, beginning with a red-carpet reception at 6 PM followed by the World Premiere of The Smithville Scandal at 7 PM with award-winning films to follow.
Submissions were broadly categorized as fiction (narrative films), non-fiction (documentary), avant-garde (experimental), animation, or a film about Parks. A new category of music videos was added this year. The filmmakers were challenged to present a compelling story within a half-hour time limit. A panel of three professional filmmakers and educators selected eleven films for awards. Forty of the films submitted will be screened over the two-day event.
Burlington County received an overwhelming number of entries this year. In total, more than 1,000 films were submitted. Submissions didn’t just come from our local filmmaking community; they represented over 70 countries. This year’s judges of the film festival noted an increase in the number and quality. The festival will screen comedic narratives, amazing animations, uplifting documentaries, and several music videos.
All are welcome to attend the screening of winning films, discuss with filmmakers, and celebrate filmmaking in Burlington County.
