“Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling

Director Mike Russell brings the classic story of “Steel Magnolias” to The Blue Moon Theatre stage. This 1987 play by Robert Harding, which was made into the hit film of the same name in 1989 starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley McLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts, was inspired by his mother, sister, and the women in their lives. The story is set around the lively Truvy’s Beauty Parlor in 1980s Louisiana, and follows a group of six women as they experience love, life, and loss. This close knit group of friends are forced to confront grief, heartache, and mortality by doing what they do best: gossiping and sharing in the salon chair.
