Swedesboro Skirmish & Art Show
The Swedesboro-Woolwich Historical Society is hosting a juried art exhibition on April 11, 2026, to commemorate the 248th anniversary of the Revolutionary War skirmish that took place in Swedesboro on April 4, 1778. This exhibition is part of the special program on April 11, 2026 in Swedesboro, as well as part of the nationwide America 250 and RevolutionNJ commemorations of the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
You can look forward to an art exhibit of local artist’s renditions of what they felt reflected the Revolutionary War and/or times in Swedesboro. During the exhibit, we hope you’ll stop at our author signing table featuring 4 local authors: Russ Shiveler, Lois Stanley, Jo Ann Laughlin and Bennett Carlton. Their books will be available to be signed and purchased.
At 2:00 pm, the awards for the art contest will be presented, a proclamation will be read regarding the 250th celebration and the skirmish that took place in Swedesboro, readings about the Skirmish from the diary of Reverend Nicholas Collin, the Swedish Pastor of Trinity Church at that time and from ministers of the Moravian Church writing about the Battle of Brandywine to the Skirmish at Swedesboro. Mr. Ben Carlton will give a brief presentation. Our event will end with Ben Carlton leading a tour of the Old Trinity Cemetery (weather permitting) noting prominent people from the Revolutionary War era buried there.
