Thomas Paine – A Lecture by Gary Berton, President of the Thomas Paine Historical Association

Please join the BHS for this very interesting lecture on Thomas Paine – an incredible individual and Rev War pamphleteer whose pamplets: Common Sense (1776) and his American Crisis series (1776-1783) played a major role in our Country winning the Revolutionary War. The first Crisis paper begings with the famous words: “These are the times that try men’s souls…” relevant in 1776 and in 2026! Paine was also one of Bordentown’s most famous residents – having lived in Bordentown from 1783 to 1802.
Gary Berton has led the Thomas Paine Historical Association for close to 30 years, and has researched Paine and his activities and writings, starting in Bordentown. The Association is now international in scope and growing. Mr. Berton has been a mathematics teacher in every level, a political science instructor in college, and held college lectures numerous times on the philosophy of Thomas Paine, and his activities introducing democracy to the world.”
