This is an unusual cemetery, in that it sits on a small grassy hill in the middle of a street. It contains only four gravestones, one of which is for Jeremiah Leeds, who served as a Lieutenant in the Gloucester County militia during the Revolutionary War in Captain Conover's Company, 3rd Battalion. [1]
As the sign at the steps of the cemetery notes, Leeds was "the first permanent settler in what is now Atlantic City." [2] A historic sign in Atlantic City (at the corner of North Michigan Ave. and Atlantic Ave.) pays tribute to Leeds's role in the history of that city.
