The sounds of bagpipes, the excitement of traditional Highland games, and the spirit of Celtic culture return to South Jersey this fall as the South Jersey Celtic Society (SJCS) hosts its Fifth Annual Celtic Festival and Highland Games on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, at the Burlington County Fairgrounds in Columbus, NJ. The free festival, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days, will feature music, dancing, athletic competitions, food, vendors, and family-friendly activities celebrating the traditions of Celtic heritage.
This year’s festival promises two full days of Celtic culture and entertainment, including:
• Live performances by popular artists The Shantys (Oct. 10) and Charlie Zahm (Oct. 11), plus a lineup of bands, pipers, and Irish/Celtic dancers.
• Highland Games competitions featuring the caber toss, hammer throw, and shot put.
• Live demonstrations and mini games with members of the South Jersey Rebels hurling team.
• A variety of food trucks serving up fair food.
• Craft beers, wine, and mead available for purchase.
• A whiskey tasting led by SJCS President John Adams and Vice President Paul Kennedy. Whiskey tasting tickets are $40 (sold separately online or at the festival). Guests can also enjoy a cheese pairing for an additional $10.
