Dorothy Quincy Hancock- Witness to the American Revolution

March 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

In April 1775, Dorothy Quincy was engaged to Boston’s wealthiest merchant and Revolutionary hero, John Hancock. On April 14, she was with him in Lexington, Massachusetts, when the “Shot Heard ’Round the World” was fired. She unofficially served as her husband’s secretary when he placed his famous signature on the Declaration of Independence. Her quick thinking also helped ease tensions in Boston following the French Bread Riots of September 1778.

This performance will be followed by James Forten: Abolitionist and Civil Rights Activist, Presented by Keith Henley.

  • Tickets will be distributed at the auditorium doors starting at 12:15pm.
  • Each person may receive only one ticket—no individual will be given multiple tickets.
  • A ticket guarantees a seat, so you don’t need to stay in line.
  • Seating will start at 12:45pm.
  • Attendance will be limited to a strict maximum of 250 people.

The character of Mrs. Dorothy Hancock is portrayed by Kim Hanley, an actor with the American Historical Theater located in Philadelphia.
