Tourism in South Jersey Continues Upward Trend in 2024

Camden, NJ – May 9, 2025 – Visit South Jersey is proud to announce strong tourism growth across the region in 2024, with Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, and Salem Counties all showing positive economic impacts from visitor activity, according to the 2024 Tourism Economic Impact Study conducted by Tourism Economics.

Across these four counties, visitor spending totaled over $3.5 billion, helping to support thousands of jobs, drive economic vitality, and reinforce South Jersey’s position as a premier destination for travelers seeking authentic cultural, recreational, and culinary experiences.

Visitor numbers also rose across the board. Camden County welcomed more than 4 million visitors, its highest recorded volume to date. Gloucester County’s visitation increased by over 12% compared to 2019, while Burlington County returned to pre-pandemic levels with 3.86 million visitors. Salem County remained stable, continuing to draw niche and heritage travelers. These trends reflect South Jersey’s growing appeal to both day-trippers and overnight guests alike.

Highlights include:

Camden County experienced a 3.9% increase in visitor spending, reaching nearly $973 million. Tourism supported over 8,600 jobs, generating $124.6 million in state and local tax revenue.

Gloucester County saw a 3.8% growth in visitor spending to $632.5 million, supporting more than 5,300 jobs.

Burlington County reported a 2.6% increase, bringing total visitor spending to $1.69 billion, with over 14,600 jobs supported by the tourism sector.

Salem County, though smaller in overall volume, held steady with $202.9 million in visitor spending and nearly 1,500 jobs sustained.

“This data reinforces the fact that tourism continues to be a powerful economic driver for South Jersey,” said Michael P. Snyder, Director of Operations at Visit South Jersey. “Every dollar spent by a visitor fuels our local economy, supports small businesses, and contributes to the vibrancy of our communities. As we look ahead to major events like the World Cup™ and the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, we’re more committed than ever to showcasing South Jersey to the world.”

As the region prepares for increased national and international attention, Visit South Jersey will continue working with county partners, local businesses, and cultural institutions to elevate tourism and ensure long-term sustainable growth.
